Diet sodas are calorie-free and help you lose weight. While itâs true that they are low in calories, this, in my opinion, is a huge misconception.
Have you ever noticed that people who drink diet sodas are rarely thin? The only skinny people Iâve seen drink the stuff were in the commercials for them.
Usually, diet sodas are a symptom of being overweight rather than a cure. Manyânot allâbut many people who drink them were already overweight before they started. Also, since theyâre volume eaters, i.e. people who eat enormous meals for every meal and snack, they think that they can drink/consume more if itâs called low calorie.
So, itâs not doing you that much good to drink it, is it? If you can wean yourself off of it and just drink water, you are going to see a big improvement. (You also wonât have all those chemicals in your body.) If you have to have soda, why not just try the regular kind for a week or so and see if you see any improvement?
This also applies to food. I know this couple who are obese. They are always trying to cut back and lose weight. One day, I was at their house and they had, of all things, diet donuts. Diet donuts! Thatâs an oxymoron! Those two words do not go together but they ate âem all up in one sitting because they were âdiet.â
While weâre at it, letâs touch on those non-fat food products. I heard somewhere that these items usually have more sugar and more sugar has more calories and thatâs going to get you nowhere. It sounds like a good idea, though: âOnly a hundred calories!â Or âLow Fat!â We take this to mean that we can eat as much of these foods as we like. We canât. And the reason we canât is because the manufacturers of these âlow fatâ foods normally substitute sugar for fat. Thatâs a lot more calories your body has to burn.
Have you ever tasted these low fat creations? They taste like cardboard. So, why waste time, money and calories on something you really donât even like? Just eat what you like, but donât overdo it.
