Diet sodas are calorie-free and help you lose weight. While it’s true that they are low in calories, this, in my opinion, is a huge misconception.

Have you ever noticed that people who drink diet sodas are rarely thin? The only skinny people I’ve seen drink the stuff were in the commercials for them.

Usually, diet sodas are a symptom of being overweight rather than a cure. Many—not all—but many people who drink them were already overweight before they started. Also, since they’re volume eaters, i.e. people who eat enormous meals for every meal and snack, they think that they can drink/consume more if it’s called low calorie.

So, it’s not doing you that much good to drink it, is it? If you can wean yourself off of it and just drink water, you are going to see a big improvement. (You also won’t have all those chemicals in your body.) If you have to have soda, why not just try the regular kind for a week or so and see if you see any improvement?

This also applies to food. I know this couple who are obese. They are always trying to cut back and lose weight. One day, I was at their house and they had, of all things, diet donuts. Diet donuts! That’s an oxymoron! Those two words do not go together but they ate ’em all up in one sitting because they were “diet.”

While we’re at it, let’s touch on those non-fat food products. I heard somewhere that these items usually have more sugar and more sugar has more calories and that’s going to get you nowhere. It sounds like a good idea, though: “Only a hundred calories!” Or “Low Fat!” We take this to mean that we can eat as much of these foods as we like. We can’t. And the reason we can’t is because the manufacturers of these “low fat” foods normally substitute sugar for fat. That’s a lot more calories your body has to burn.

Have you ever tasted these low fat creations? They taste like cardboard. So, why waste time, money and calories on something you really don’t even like? Just eat what you like, but don’t overdo it.
